East of Borneo

Based in the United States Active since 2010 East of Borneo is a collaborative reexamination of U.S. West Coast art and its history. We publish new essays and interviews alongside a growing archive of images, videos, texts, and sounds added by our community. We also produce exhibitions, talks, screenings, and workshops, and republish material that is out of print or hard to find through our Second Life series. In 2012, we launched East of Borneo Books to extend our mission into print, calling attention to the best writing on the visual culture of Los Angeles. The first release was Piecing Together Los Angeles: An Esther McCoy Reader; followed by Facing the Music: Documenting Walt Disney Concert Hall and The Redevelopment of Downtown Los Angeles, a project by Allan Sekula; and Second Life: Light Bulb (1977–81), edited by Chip Chapman.
