Celebrating 40 Years of ICI

Since 1975, Independent Curators International (ICI) has produced exhibitions, publications, training programs and research initiatives for curators – as well as hundreds of free events for everyone – in 400 cities and 55 countries. ICI has supported over 1,000 curators, 2,600 artists, and worked with 550 art spaces; and there are 360 Curatorial Intensive alumni based in 64 countries who represent the future of the curatorial field. Our network keeps growing—one collaboration at a time. As ICI enters its 40th year, we are highlighting many of the important collaborators, exhibitions, publications, and public programs that have defined our mission. We celebrate ICI’s past with a keen eye on the future, and continue our pioneering work in the curatorial field. Click under “Event Updates” on the right side of this page to navigate through highlights from the past 40 years that continue to inform present-day ICI programs and exhibitions.
