Create is a major group exhibition that presents the most important works created over the past 20 years by artists involved with the three pioneering non-profit organizations: Creativity Explored, Creative Growth Art Center, and the National Institute for Art and Disabilities Art Center (NIAD). Founded with the belief that exceptional creativity can emerge in anyone, these centers offer an experience that goes beyond the term “outsider art” envisioned by the art critic Roger Cardinal in 1972. Create is curated by Lawrence Rinder, with Matthew Higgs, and organized in collaboration with UC Berkeley Art Museum. Among the artists presented in the show are included Judith Scott, John Patrick McKenzie, William Scott, Evelyne Reyes, and Dan Miller.
