Curatorial Assembly in New Orleans

Image: Participants of the Curatorial Forum at EXPO Chicago with Miranda Lash, September 12–15, 2017.
Developed by ICI, the Curatorial Assembly in New Orleans will offer a small group of leading institutional curators, working in the American South, the opportunity to engage closely with their peers to explore pertinent issues relating to curating, programming, institutional building, audience engagement, and the development of regional and international networks. The Curatorial Assembly will propose a format for knowledge exchange where each participant shares with the group their current research and upcoming programs. The format will encourage critical curatorial feedback from their cohort, while opening up the possibility of exploring the potential for cross-programing and institutional collaboration between the participants, and also with ICI’s traveling exhibition program. The activities will be led by: María del Carmen Carrión (Director of Public Programs and Research, ICI) and Renaud Proch (Executive Director, ICI). Participating curators include: Andrea Andersson (Chief Curator of the Visual Arts at the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans) Lauren Haynes (Curator, Contemporary Art at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art) Miranda Lash (Curator of Contemporary Art at the Speed Art Museum) Katie Pfohl (Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, New Orleans Museum of Art) Trevor Schoonmaker (Chief Curator and Patsy R. and Raymond D. Curator of Contemporary Art, Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University and Artistic Director, Prospect.4 New Orleans) The 2017 Curatorial Assembly is made possible, in part, by support from the ADAA Foundation, Keller Family Foundation, and VIA Art Fund.
