To support the project, ICI and Hans Ulrich Obrist have also commissioned do it artists Marina Abramovi?, Stephen Kaltenbach and Rirkrit Tiravanija to produce exclusive limited editions inspired by the spirit of the exhibition. About do it Curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, do it began in Paris in 1993 as a conversation between the artists Christian Boltanski and Bertrand Lavier with Obrist, questioning if a show could take “scores” or written instructions by artists as a point of departure, which could be interpreted anew each time they were enacted. To test the idea, Obrist invited 13 artists to send instructions, which were then translated into 9 different languages and circulated internationally as a book. Within 2 years do it exhibitions were being created all over the world by realizing the artists’ instructions. With every version of the exhibition, new instructions were added, so that today more than 400 artists have contributed to the project, which has been featured in at least 90 locations worldwide. With each presentation, the exhibition transforms, as the local community responds to the instructions, revealing the nuances of human interpretation, the potential of translation and the heterogeneity of a participatory art project on a global scale.
