Established in 2010, The Curatorial Intensive is a weeklong, immersive professional development program that offers emerging curators from around the world the chance to develop project ideas and make cross-generational connections with professionals in the field. Quarterly ICI is highlighting updates from our Curatorial Intensive alumni, a network which currently consists of 490 curators from 70 countries, with their most recent appointments, exhibitions and research. APPOINTMENTS Bruno de Almeida (Accra ‘17) has been appointed Curator and Resident Liaison at the Van Eyck – Multiform Institute for Fine Art, Design and Reflection in Maastricht, Netherlands. Amanda de la Garza (Londonderry ‘13) has been appointed Director General of Visual Arts at the University Museum of Contemporary Art in Mexico City, Mexico (MUAC). Chloe Geoghegan (New York Fall ‘15) has been appointed Curator at Te Uru in Auckland, New Zealand. Melissa Lee (Bangkok ‘18) has been appointed Director of Education and Public Programs at the Vancouver Art Gallery in Vancouver, Canada. La Keisha Leek (Dakar ‘16) has been appointed Department Administrator at MacArthur Foundation in Chicago, Illinois. Lynnette Miranda (New Orleans ‘16) has been appointed Program Director of United States Artists in Chicago, IL. Rachel Reese (New York Spring ‘14) has been appointed Director and Curator of Cress Gallery of Art at UTC in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Rotem Rozental (New York Fall ‘14) has been appointed Chief Curator and Senior Director of Arts and Culture at the American Jewish University in Los Angeles. Eric Golo Stone (New York Fall ‘12) has been appointed the Artistic Director of the Künstlerhaus Stuttgart in Stuttgart, Germany. Victor Wang (New York Fall’ 11) has been appointed Artistic Director and Chief Curator of M WOODS Museum in Beijing, China. EXHIBITIONS Laura August (New Orleans ‘19) has curated a group exhibition, Stone’s Throw: Arte de Sanación, Arte de Resistencia, at The Anderson at VCU in Richmond, VA. (January 17 – February 28, 2020). Laura Blereau (New York Fall ‘11) curated a group exhibition, Per(Sister): Incarcerated Women of Louisiana at Ford Foundation Gallery in New York City. (February 21 – May 9, 2020). Joel Butler (New Orleans ‘19) co-curated Being Oscar de la Renta at Centro de León in Santiago, Dominican Republic. (November 22, 2019 – April 26, 2020). Diana Campbell (Inhotim ‘12) curated the fourth edition of the Dhaka Arts Summit: Seismic Movements on view February 7 – 15, 2020 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. (February 6 – March 6, 2020). Naz Cuguo?lu (New Orleans ‘17) curated a group exhibition, The Word for World is Forest, at CCA Wattis Institute in San Francisco, California. (April 16 – May 16, 2020). Shlomit Dror (New York Fall ‘12) curated a group exhibition, Women Element, opening at Montclair State University in September 2020 in Montclair, New Jersey. Övül Ö. Durmusoglu (Inhotim ‘12) co-curated, Opening, a section for ARCOMadrid Art Fair 2020 in Madrid, Spain. (February 26 – March 1, 2020). Aaron Levi Garvey (New Orleans ‘15) curated a group exhibition, The Drowned, at Alabama Contemporary Art Center in Mobile, Alabama. (March 13 – June 13, 2020). Katherine Gressel (New Orleans ‘15) curated a solo exhibition of Alicia Grullón at The Old Stone House in Brooklyn, NY. (February 6 – April 6). Kabelo Malatsie (Accra ‘17) is curating the 2020 edition of Art Dubai’s Residents section (March 25 – 28, 2020). Serubiri Moses (Dakar ’16) is co-curating Greater New York, MoMA PS1’s survey of contemporary art opening this fall of 2020 in New York City. Lila Nazemian (Bangkok ‘18) curated a two-person exhibition, I open my eyes and see myself under a tree laden with fruit that I cannot name, presented at Center for the Book Arts in New York City. (January 17 – March 21, 2020). Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh (Accra ‘17) co-curated the 12th edition of Bamako Photography Biennial in Bamako, Mali. (November 30, 2019 – January 31, 2020). Marisol Rodriguez (Dakar ‘16) curated a group exhibition, Amexica, opening at The Loft – The Servais Family Collection in Brussels, Belgium (April 23, 2020 – March 14, 2021) Ulya Soley (Bangkok ‘18) curated a group exhibition, How shall we dress for the occasion?, presented in New York City by Protocinema, an arts organization founded by Mari Spirito (Inhotim ‘12), on view January 11 – March 22, 2020. RESEARCH Nic Brierre Aziz (New Orleans ‘19) has been awarded the Warhol Foundation Grant for his research on the migration of black Haitians and its influence on the art and culture of the places they traveled both as slaves and as free people. Lauren Schell Dickens (New Orleans ‘15) has been awarded the Warhol Foundation Grant for her research on Filipino art and notions of nationhood, identity, migration, immigration, colonialism, and economic pressures.
