Curator’s Perspective: Koyo Kouoh

Koyo Kouoh Saturday, January 26, 2013, 3pm New Museum 235 Bowery New York, NY 10002 FREE with museum admission Koyo Kouoh speaks at the Curator’s Perspective, an itinerant public discussion series that features international curators who distill current happenings in contemporary art, including the artists they are excited by, exhibitions that have made them think, and their views on recent developments in the art world. Mediation of Self: The Landscape of Contemporary Art in Africa The terrain of artistic and intellectual practice in Africa is in rapid change. New spaces, new climates, new languages of negotiations, and mediations are arising on the landscape. The age of representation and advocacy from the late 80’s through the early 2000’s is gradually replaced by a new generation of practitioners interested in the power of localities and their environments. This talk will engage with significant voices in that field to draw a new cartography of production and discourse for Africa. The Curator’s Perspective is a free, itinerant public discussion series ICI developed as a way for international curators to share their research and experiences with audiences in New York. Through these talks, ICI has begun to assemble documents and disseminate a wide variety of international perspectives on art today. This event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP to rsvp@curatorsintl.org with Koyo Kouoh in the subject field. For more information contact Misa Jeffereis at misa@curatorsintl.org.
