Image: Yoshua Okón. Miasma, 2016. Installation view at testsite, Austin, TX, USA. October 16 to December 4, 2016. Yoshua Okón: MIASMA Thursday, November 10 6:30–8pm ICI Curatorial Hub 401 Broadway, Suite 1620 FREE and open to the public Artist Yoshua Okón will speak about his multidimensional, politically engaged practice with ICI’s Renaud Proch and artist Paul Pfeiffer. Okón will discuss his project, MIASMA (developed with curator Edgar Alejandro Hernandez at the invitation of the speculative, non-profit art space testsite in Austin, Texas), that explores covert operations of cultural infiltration by the United States government in Mexico. He will present some of his ongoing research, including his revisiting of the documents of art critic José Gomez Sicre, director of visual arts at the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington D.C. and his relationship with art historian Alfred Barr. This program is the first in a collaboration between ICI and Denniston Hill‘s Artist Residency program. Okón is currently a 2016 Artist-in-Residence at Denniston Hill, located in the southern Catskills. This event is free and open to the public. To attend, please RSVP to rsvp@curatorsintl.org with YOSHUA in the subject line.
