Application deadline: PASSED The Curatorial Intensive is targeted toward self-motivated individuals—working independently or in institutions—who would benefit from a week of intensive conversations around the issues and questions that regularly arise for curators. These range from the pragmatics of developing an exhibition and building working relationships with artists to the theoretical aspects of understanding how to turn a concept into a project and effectively communicate ideas. Focusing on new models for curating and exhibition development, ICI’s annual summer Curatorial Intensive offers curators the opportunity to meet colleagues from around the world and share ideas on how to push the parameters of their practice. Seminars, site visits, individual meetings, and roundtable discussions will be led by the following faculty: Bruce Altshuler (Director, Program in Museum Studies, New York University), Holly Block (Executive Director, Bronx Museum of the Arts, New York), Nicholas Cullinan (Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art), Reem Fadda (Associate Curator of Middle Eastern Art, Abu Dhabi Project, Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, New York), Kate Fowle (Chief Curator, Garage, Moscow, and Director-at-Large, ICI), Dóra Hegyi (Project Leader, tranzit.hu, Budapest), Todd Levin (art advisor), Agustín Pérez Rubio (independent curator and art critic), and Jenny Schlenzka (Associate Curator, MoMA PS1, New York), among others. All applications must include: -a cover sheet with your full name, mailing address, email, date of birth, gender, and citizenship -a 300-word description of a program idea that the applicant would like help in developing. This description should outline the proposal concept and any artists that the applicant is considering. -a current 250-word bio -a 500-word letter of intent -a 300-word text that describes a recent curatorial project that has made an impact on the applicant -a 600-word scholarship request (optional––see information below) Fees and scholarships The program fee is 1,900 USD. Participants are also responsible for covering travel and accommodation expenses. Scholarship packages that subsidize or eliminate the program fees, accommodation, and travel expenses are available and awarded based on merit. Scholarships for curators from Turkey will be supported by SAHA. If you are interested in applying for a scholarship you must address the following questions in a short essay (less than 600 words): 1. What are your future educational and career goals? 2. How specifically would the Curatorial Intensive help you to achieve those future educational and career goals? 3. Because this scholarship is partially awarded on need-based criteria, please explain the specific nature of your past or current financial challenges.
