Photo: Danh Vo, 2013 Juan A. Gaitán Sunday, October 20, 2013 3–4:30pm Lobby at MoMA PS1 22-25 Jackson Avenue Long Island City, NY 11101 FREE with museum admission ($10 general, $5 student/senior) As part of ICI’s Curator’s Perspective—an itinerant public discussion series featuring international curators—Juan A. Gaitán (Curator of the 8th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art) will present his current research interests and curatorial projects. In 2014, Gaitán will curate the 8th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art. At this Curator’s Perspective, he will speak about his approach to the Biennale, his working process and plans for the exhibition, as well as some of the key ideas he has been investigating on the notions of modernity and citizenship. Gaitán will also report on his most recent travels to Southeast Asia––including the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand––where he visited artists as part of his research for the Biennale. Please RSVP to rsvp@curatorsintl.org with JUAN GAITAN in the subject field.

The Curator’s Perspective is a free, itinerant public discussion series ICI developed as a way for international curators to share their research and experiences with audiences in New York. These talks provide ICI the opportunity to assemble documentation on and disseminate information about a wide variety of international perspectives on art today. This year audiences have heard perspectives on art, culture, and exhibition-making from curators based in Dakar, Jakarta, Gdansk, and Melbourne. In fall 2013, practitioners will talk about what they’re most interested in at the moment, including the artists and the sociopolitical contexts that are shaping practices now. The Curator’s Perspective series has been made possible, in part, by grants from the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation and by generous contributions from the ICI Board of Trustees and ICI Access Fund.
