Con Cabrera
Con Cabrera (b. 1981, Philippines) is a visual artist and independent curator. She graduated at the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and is now pursuing her masters at the University of the Philippines under the Curatorial Studies program. She started joining group exhibitions in 2006, had her first solo show in 2011, and her first independent curatorial project was in 2012. She has attended the following curatorial workshops: the Vargas Museum and Japan Foundation Third Curatorial Development Program in 2014, Independent Curators Internationals Curatorial Intensive Manila in 2016, and San Arts Uncommon Pursuits 2018, a temporary school for emergent curators in Southeast Asia in Saigon, Vietnam. She participated in Rikuzentakata Artist in Residence Program in Iwate, Japan as researcher in 2017 and contributed essays on art to publications such as Traffic Vol. 1 and Purveyr magazine. She was part of the curatorial team of the first Manila Biennale 2018 under the Open City exhibition program held at Intramuros, Manila. In 2019, she came back to Rikuzentakata City to co-curate RT AIR and Sanriku Festivals Kesen Art and Life Potluck Sharing exhibition, talk event and art marche that was participated by local and international artists and collaborators. She embeds her current projects into the navigation of her state as a woman enclosed by the politics of housework, parenting, the private space and ideology, while gradually expanding to cultural work in the larger society. In her recent works, she mindfully bonds her art production and conceptualization to writings on art, culture and history.
