Juan Cortés

Juan Cortés is a Colombian composer, orchestrator and music producer for films and television based in Los Angeles, California. His works take on multiple forms such as installation works, recordings, and concert pieces, mixing new, unconventional sounds with traditional composition and contemporary music production techniques. Cortés is interested in investigative and interdisciplinary processes and the connections between art, science and pedagogical processes. His most recent works include the award-winning Netflix series “Watership Down,” Uruguayan film “A Twelve-Year Night,” an animated surrealist drama “Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles,” and an American romance “Life Itself.” He is currently working with Award winning composer Federico Jusid, as a composer and sound designer for his company Metronome MP. Throughout 2016 and 2018, Juan collaborated on a number of feature-films such as “Neruda”(Pablo Larrain), “Early Man”(Aardman Animations), and “Loving Pablo”(Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz). Cortés is recipient of a number of awards such as the ‘VII Award to the Arts of the Alternate Space Gallery in Bogotá’, Colombia and the ‘PRAC Grant’ of the Ministry of Culture of Colombia. He has performed and presented his works at institutions such as MoMA, Center for the Arts CMA Madrid, Bilbao Exhibition Center, Fridman Gallery, and Centre Centquatre.
