Santiago Olmo

Santiago Olmo (b. Madrid, 1958) has been an independent curator and art critic since 1986, and is based in Madrid. Between 1999 and 2003 Olmo was Executive Editor of Lápiz and is now Contributing Editor of Artecontexto (Madrid). He has curated a wide number of retrospectives and group exhibitions in museums all over the world, including Entre Líneas and Todo Incluido (in collaboration with Virginia Pérez-Ratton), and El Viaje Inútil for the Lanzarote Biennale in 2003. Olmo was curator for the Spanish representation at the XXIV Bienal de São Paulo in 1998. In 2002, in Milan he participated in the international group of curators for I Semi del futuro / Proggetto Bovisa. Since 2004, in collaboration with Valentin Vallhonrat and Rafael Levenfeld, Olmo has been leading the project Tender Puentes from the Photographic Collection of the University of Navarra in Pamplona (Spain), working with artists in order to establish a dialogue between the present and the photographic view of the nineteenth century. 15 projects and 9 books have been published until now. In 2010, he curated the XXXI Pontevedra Biennial focusing on Central America and the Caribbean, under the title Utropics. In 2012, Olmo joined the curatorial team of Temas Centrales 2 Symposium organized by Fundación Teoretica and MADC in San José, Costa Rica. He was curator of the XVIII Biennial Paiz of Guatemala (2012), in Guatemala City and La Antigua, which included a wide program of workshops and projections in Quetzaltenango.
