Independent Curators International (ICI), SculptureCenter, and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (VLA) invite you to join us for a day trip to Bard College and the Hessel Museum of Art in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. Our trip to Bard will last two hours in either direction and include breakfast baked goods as well as a return tequila toast. This event will only take place if we receive 10 or more RSVPs. Space is limited. Trip participants will attend Why New Forms? a curatorial conference celebrating CCS Bard’s 20th anniversary. The conference has been organized by CCS Bard alumni/ae Ruba Katrib, SculptureCenter Curator, and Dan Byers, The Richard Armstrong Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Carnegie Museum of Art. We will depart from Chelsea in Manhattan at 8:00am and arrive at CCS Bard by 11:00am on Saturday, June 23rd in time to attend The New Alternative panel moderated by Ruba. This panel will consider institutional models formerly considered outside of progressive curatorial consideration—such as the commercial gallery, private collection, and donor-run organization—as locations for present day experimentation and scholarship. Panelists: Monserrat Albores Gleason, independent curator; ?ukasz Gorczyca, co-founder and Director of Raster Gallery; Stefan Kalmár, Executive Director and Curator of Artists Space; Alex Sainsbury, Director of Raven Row. Participants will also attend the opening of the Hessel Museum of Art’s two new major summer exhibitions: From 199A to 199B: Liam Gillick curated by Tom Eccles and Anti-Establishment a group show featuring the work of Wynne Greenwood, Trajal Harrell, H.E.N.S. (Arlen Austin & Jason Boughton), Jacqueline Humphries, Brennan Gerard & Ryan Kelly, Chelsea Knight (with Elise Rasmussen), Pam Lins, Scott Lyall, Tere O’Connor, Mai-Thu Perret, Sarah Pierce, Elisabeth Subrin, and Yes! Association, curated by Johanna Burton. The opening reception will be followed by a VIP cocktail hour and book launch of Interiors, CCS’s new Reader series. We will leave Bard at 7pm and arrive in Manhattan at 9pm. The cost of this trip is $80 per person. Please confirm your participation by contacting Stephanie Weissberg, at SculptureCenter at sweissberg@sculpture-center.org, or 718.361.1750 x110. Please RSVP by Monday, June 18 to reserve your seat. We hope you’ll join us!
