An Anthology of Southeast Asian Modern and Contemporary Art: A Thai version Tuesday, October 27, 2015 57pm at the Ayara Hall, Jim Thompson House Museum 6 Soi Kasemsan 2, Rama 1 Road, Bangkok, Thailand FREE The Jim Thompson Art Center hosts research seminar An Anthology of Southeast Asian Modern and Contemporary Art: A Thai Version with ICI guest curator Gridthiya Gaweewong, Manuporn Luengaram, Assistant Professor Dr. Yukti Mukdawijitra, Assistant Professor Dr. Kasem Penpinan, and Dr. Thanom Chapakdee. The seminar will be moderated by Mary Pansanga. The project, which will be followed shortly by a publication, aims to gather art historical and cultural knowledge around the region of Southeast Asia from the late 19th century to today. The discussion will take as its jumping-off point various perspectives including art history, geography, ethnicity, economics, urbanism, and politics. Using colonialism as a core chronology for the research, the anthology will cover issues such as the various overlaps of geography and time, regionalist views on art, and Southeast Asian art movements and exhibition histories.
