Create installation view. Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, 2011. In conjunction with the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Art Gallery’s presentation of Create, this October 3rd both curators Lawrence Rinder and Matthew Higgs will be present at the gallery to give a special talk about the exhibition. Curated by Lawrence Rinder and Matthew Higgs, Create profiles twenty of the most important artists who have worked with Creativity Explored, Creative Growth Art Center, and the National Institute for Art and Disabilities Art Center (NIAD), three long-standing organizations for artists with developmental disabilities. A vast array of media and talent by artists such as Dwight MacKintosh, Dan Miller, Aurie Ramirez, William Scott and more, challenge audiences to question their relationship to categories of contemporary art practice, visibility, and attitudes towards “outsiders”. *There will also be an opening reception on September 5th with a preview talk by Tom di Maria, director of the Creative Growth Art Center.
