Tuesday, November 29 6:308pm ICI Curatorial Hub 401 Broadway, Suite 1620 FREE and open to the public Members of the What Would An HIV Doula Do? collective will discuss the groups response to Art AIDS America, which closed recently at the Bronx Museum of Art (on view July 13October 23, 2016). The touring exhibition is a landmark project looking at the history of artist responses to HIV/AIDS. It has also been the subject of much activism and critique around its narrow representation of artists of color, particularly black artists. Working to bring attention to the activism and protest surrounding the traveling exhibition, the What Would An HIV Doula Do? collective, organized a series of evenings of movement and discussion led by artist Julie Tolentino, members of the WWHDD collective and friends. Out of these conversations came a plan to explore different ways of encountering and critiquing Art AIDS America. The collective’s response is documented on the website of Visual AIDS here.
