HOUSING with KJ Freeman Thursday, May 2, 2019 6:30-8pm ICI 401 Broadway, Suite 1620 New York, NY 10013 FREE and open to the public On May 2nd Join ICI and Rafael Amadeo Foster, KJ Freeman, and Erick Medel to talk about ways that their work with HOUSING and MX Gallery open up commercial structures in contemporary art to more people of color and hypothetical methods for expanding such inclusivity. This program with Freeman and Medel considers the agency artists, curators and dealers may claim to shift access to and inclusion within cultural representation. This is also reflected, from a historical perspective, in ICIs touring exhibition Axis Mundo: Queer Networks in Chicano L.A. Curated by C. Ondine Chavoya and David Evans Frantz the exhibition shows the networks that connected Chicanx artists in Los Angeles interpersonally and from one group to another to shape the Chicano Art Movement that informs performance art, as well as queer aesthetics and practices today. This event is co-presented with HOUSING and MX Gallery. HOUSING is a migratory, concept-based gallery in New York City. It is guided by a desire to stimulate public discourse through the work of artists and creative practitioners whose works show critical commentary and intent. HOUSING will be participating in the second off-site exhibition of NADA House at Governors Island (May 2 August 4, 2019) and will be exhibiting work of Baseera Khan and Erick Medel. The opening reception will be May 2, 1-5pm. MX Gallery is an exhibition and performance space established in 2015 by Rafael Amadeo Foster, located in the Chinatown neighborhood of Manhattan at the intersection of Canal & Elizabeth Street.
