Meteor Shower / Días Sin Shower

Image: Cover art by Mel Xiloj. Meteor Shower / Días Sin Shower Thursday, May 17, 2018 6:30–8pm ICI Curatorial Hub 401 Broadway, Suite 1620 FREE and open to the public Rupture, orange matter, pleasures unwashed. Flamboyán trees shelter the mangos, goats, kush, and hammocks constellating Ren (Rachel) Ellis Neyra’s debut book of poems Meteor Shower / Días Sin Shower (La Impresora Press). Ellis Neyra’s poems’ American English cum Spanglish syntaxis arranges translations of Robert Hayden, Laurie Weeks, Gil Cuadros, Eduardo Corral, and Dante Alighieri. Hamstrung by the U.S.’ colonial, warring occupation of the Puerto Rican archipelago, the Caribbean archipelago, and the desire, too, to be there, in that surging Glissantian audio-vision sent from the past of so many islands, small countries, ceibas, and bombas at the bottom of the Atlantic, Meteor Shower / Días Sin Shower imagines with André 3000 “the shape of things to come.” Signed copies of the book will be for sale at the reading ($15). Art by Mel Xiloj, Signe Olson, and Eero Talo line the book. Printed on risograph and hand-bound at La Impresora Press, San Juan, Puerto Rico, summer 2017. This event is free and open to the public. To attend, please RSVP to rsvp@curatorsintl.org with METEOR in the subject line. This event is accessible to people with mobility disabilities. Please contact ICI for additional accessibility needs. This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with City Council, and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
