Talking to Action: Art, Pedagogy, and Activism in the Americas Presented by Karen Moss Tuesday, December 12, 2017 6:30–8pm ICI Curatorial Hub 401 Broadway, Suite 1620 FREE and open to the public Talking to Action: Art, Pedagogy, and Activism in the Americas is both an exhibition and publication investigating contemporary, community-based social art practices from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and the U.S. Featuring drawings, archival documents, sculptures, installations, films and videos, the artists’ practices blur the lines between object-making, activism, and community organizing to address critical social-political issues. In this talk, Karen Moss will discuss the project’s overarching platforms, its dialogical and pedagogical underpinnings and the challenges and strategies of curating collaborative, collective social practice projects. Talking to Action: Art, Pedagogy, and Activism in the Americas is currently on view at the Ben Maltz Gallery of Otis College of Art and Design (September 17–December 10, 2017). Bill Kelley, Jr. is Curator and Lead Researcher of Talking to Action. Karen Moss is Consulting Curator, and is adjunct professor of Public Practice at Otis College of Art and Design. This program is part of a talk series featuring the curators of some of the key exhibitions organized as part of Pacific Standard Time (PST): LA/LA in California this Fall. The series will run through the Spring and offer New York audiences an opportunity to learn first-hand about the curatorial ideas and research generated by PST: LA/LA. This event is free and open to the public. To attend, please RSVP to rsvp@curatorsintl.org with KAREN in the subject line. This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with City Council, and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
