POSTPONED: What is shared, what is offered: book launch

POSTPONED: What is shared, what is offered: Book Launch Due to unforeseen circumstances this event will be rescheduled to a later date. Please check back for the new date, or RSVP to be emailed with more information once it becomes available. ICI New York 401 Broadway, Suite 1620 Free and open to the public RSVP here This Valentine’s Day we invite you to join us in celebrating the two years of conversations reflected in artist Chloë Bass’ new e-book What is shared, what is offered by participating in the exercise of sharing and response that grounds this publication. Attendees are invited to submit an image with their RSVP that Bass will respond to at the event. For exactly two years (Valentine’s Day 2017–19) Chloë Bass convened friends, colleagues, and fellow artists—Doug Ashford, Bill Dietz, Tiona Nekkia McClodden, Lisi Raskin and Jessica Lynne—for intimate, yet public discussions at ICI in New York, as part of her project What is shared, what is offered. Bass’ new e-book, which shares this title, celebrates these conversations. The e-book includes an introduction by Bass, transcripts of the discussions from each event, and a newly commissioned text by artist, composer and performer Jeremy Toussaint-Baptiste reflecting on these events and the project’s structure. What is shared, what is offered was part of The Book of Everyday Instruction, an eight-chapter project that investigated one-on-one interaction. In each of the event five events at ICI in New York, Chloë and her invited guest played a game. First, each selected a series of images that the other had not seen. At the event, images were revealed one by one and Chloë and her guest responded to one another’s selections. This event follows the Teaching Art as Social Action: Pros, Cons, Observations, Experiences panel at the College Art Association (CAA) Conference, which Bass will co-chair. What is shared, what is offered is also an element of her larger three-year project The Book of Everyday Instruction, which was documented through her 2018 monograph of the same title. This event is free and open to the public. To attend, please RSVP here This event is accessible to people with mobility disabilities. Please contact ICI for additional accessibility needs. This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with City Council, and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
