In 2011, the Getty Research Institute acquired the Harald Szeemann complete archives and library. The archive and library contain a comprehensive record of Szeemann’s correspondence with artists, academics and cultural producers from the 1950’s through his death in 2005. Also included are extraordinary materials from the early 20th century including prints, drawings, photographs, posters, videotapes and other valuable ephemera. The archive encompasses Szeemann’s extensive personal library of monographs, artists books and other rare publications, documenting Szeemann’s work, research and relationships with some of 20th century’s most influential artists such as Joseph Beuys, Bruce Nauman, Richard Serra, and Cy Twombly. The Harald Szeemann archive and library are currently in the process of being catalogued and made available to the public, with the work scheduled to be completed by January of 2015.
