STEPHEN VITIELLO AT BARYSHNIKOV ARTS CENTER

Posted on July 16, 2014

With Hidden Noise curator Stephen Vitiello’s installation Light Readings will premiere in New York this winter at the Baryshnikov Arts Center. Light Readings is an interactive multimedia installation and previous versions of the work have been shown at the Texas Gallery, the Menil Collection, and the Berkeley Art Museum. Vitiello is a sound and media artist and his work Decay, Decay, Delay, Decay, created in collaboration with artist Taylor Deupree, is included in With Hidden Noise, currently on view at the Katherine E. Nash Gallery in Minneapolis. His installations have been shown internationally at venues such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the 15th Biennale of Sydney in Australia.

The Baryshnikov Arts Center writes about Vitiello’s Light Readings:

“Vitello sculpts a real-time composition by using small photocell devices to translate light frequencies into an ambient soundscape. Shifts in natural light from BAC’s expansive studio windows, and shadows of people moving through the space blend with bursts of urban sounds from the street below to create an immersive sonic and visual score.”
