With Hidden Noise curator Stephen Vitiello recently spoke at the American Art’s Lincoln Gallery as part of the celebration commemorating artist Nam June Paik’s birthday. In an interview with Eye Level, Vitiello elaborates on his relationship with Paik, his own first steps into recording sound, and what it means to “listen with intent.”
“In general, we are always hearing things happening around us but it’s not until you tell yourself to really listen that you hear sounds in richer detail, focus on the layers of sound and perhaps train yourself to seek out what is beautiful in the everyday mix.”
