WATCH NOW: KAHLIL ROBERT IRVING IN CONVERSATION

Posted on January 13, 2021

On Thursday, December 3 at 5pm EST, ICI & NADA hosted a talk with Kahlil Robert Irving, Amanda Ross-Ho & José Carlos Diaz. Watch the full video of the conversation below!

On the occasion of NADA Miami’s Online Viewing Room, ICI hosted an online conversation with artist Kahlil Robert Irving, artist Amanda Ross-Ho, and Chief Curator at The Andy Warhol Museum, José Carlos Diaz on Irving’s participation in the Great Rivers Biennial at CAM St. Louis on view through February 2021. Ross-Ho and Carlos Diaz are two of three jurors appointed to select the artists. Established in 2003, the Great Rivers Biennial identifies talented emerging and mid-career artists working in the greater St. Louis metro area.

Kahlil Robert Irving observes how materials and emotions are linked, simultaneously existing as static/dynamic, heavy/light, political/anarchic, old/new. Through his practice he intends to break cultural rules that have been developed by colonialism, and aims to navigate and challenge those constructs through materials, form, and performance.

Irving’s ceramic sculptures critically engage with the history of the medium and challenge constructs around identity and culture in western civilization. This examination of the digital media, memory, and race in Irving’s practice is embedded in each ceramic tile. Click here for Irving’s ICI exclusive limited edition.
